Vi Still Dominates
A recent poll shows that Vi/Vim/GVim have a dominating 56% user preference. But in a surprising find, Emacs/XEmacs were not the second most popular as one would think from the many Vi vs. Emacs debates. – Source

Earlier I reported on the release of Microsoft’s new Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008. Now the development side of the equation is announced officially as betas and RCs.

It’s one of my favorite times of year software wise; time to start talking about the next version of Fedora. Fedora 8 is the next, much anticipated, version of the Fedora Project. The Fedora 8 Schedule is out and we are nearing the feature freeze already. The Test 1 Development Freeze occurred on July 24th. Here is a good article, from comnetslash.com, about what to expect in both the test release and upcoming releases as well. There is also a good write up about proposed features for Fedora 8, from linuxupdate.blogspot.com.

According to David Duchovny (Mulder) himself, there is a script out and both Chris Carter (director) and Gillian Anderson (Scully) are on board. This is huge news for X-Files fanboys like myself. Shooting is set to begin in November and the movie is scheduled for a summer 2008 release. – Source , Second Source

During my honeymoon I read The Cathedral and the Bazaar: Musings on Linux and Open Source by an Accidental Revolutionary by Eric S. Raymond. This is an incredible book. If you love open source software, this is the book for you. It has great stories about the open source movement, linux, Mozilla, hackers, and more. I would consider this a must read for everyone who works in the computer industry. Everyone from code monkeys, to managers, to CIOs to CEOs, should read this book.

Unfortunately development at Anchuan.Org has stalled; therefore I am putting out a call for developers. I would like a small group of enthusiastic developers to help re-energize both the firefly project and Anchuan.Org in general. Please email me at timothy.ferro@gmail.com if you wish to help.
I finally setup Wordpress on my website so I can blog in style…
